Thunderbird country

Thunderbird country

Cycling down the pacific coast of the United States of America entering California I got the feeling of entering a land I had seen before. Especially getting more south. The cliffs are steep, the sun is hot, the plants are getting more and more tropical, with palm trees arriving on the scene. Every once in a while you see a house on a little half peninsula peaking out over a cliff somewhat. It's a little bit eccentric in it's features. There is a larger space where there is a garage that looks like a landing pad of some sort. It is a strange feeling being reminded of something at a place you have never been before. Sure you could say I had seen this in pictures and movies, but that is never exactly the same. Neither is it the same in this case. I am reminded of pictures in my head from a puppet show. I am reminded of Thunderbirds.
I always thought the series was completely fictional. The set for the series always looked completely fabricated to me. There is no place that looks like that I thought as a kid watching that show. Riding my bike around the Pacific Coast now I'm reminded of those images from my childhood. The world looks like a Thunderbirds set!
